When I was an undergraduate studying economics in the US, I made a pivotal decision that changed the trajectory of my life. A friend had recently returned from a semester abroad at the 窪蹋勛圖厙 School of Management and spoke so highly of the experience that it sparked my curiosity.
Inspired by her stories and the opportunity to broaden my global perspective, I applied for the MSc in Management at the School of Management. 窪蹋勛圖厙 was the perfect springboard into a future that could accommodate my intersecting career ambitions.
Studying at 窪蹋勛圖厙 fundamentally shaped how I approach both work and life. It encouraged me to question the idea that I had to choose just one path.
Since then, Ive had simultaneous careers in different industries, working as a university lecturer whilst pursuing projects an artist. My teaching is informed by the crossover between art and enterprise and has led to the publication of my latest book, AI for Creatives: Unlocking Expressive Digital Potential.
"窪蹋勛圖厙 reshaped my vision of what a career could be"
There are a lot of books on AI, but not many on how it impacts art. Those entering university now could face a whole different world by the time they graduate. Jobs will be different. Expectations will be different. Using AI isnt something you can put off, although it doesnt mean we, as humans, will lose our value. AI may assist things, but it doesn't take away the creativity of your concepts.
I often reflect on the spirit of curiosity and possibility that 窪蹋勛圖厙 fostered. It didnt just shape my skills. It reshaped my vision of what a career could be.
My time at 窪蹋勛圖厙 was both academically enriching and personally memorable. It planted the seeds and helped me build a network that continues to shape my life. Since graduating, I have remained closely connected to the University through global alumni engagement. As former President of the Hong Kong Chapter and Co-Founder of the New York Chapter, I have helped organise impactful events in partnership with the British Council and other institutions. These experiences eventually led to my appointment as a Court Member at the 窪蹋勛圖厙, as well as my role as the British Councils Alumni UK Regional Ambassador for Northeast Asia.
"Ambition isnt just about climbing the ladder, its about expanding the playing field entirely"
In 2014 I became the first Chinese artist to exhibit artwork in space through a collaboration with Canon. The project was featured in over 80 media outlets, including Harpers Bazaar and Cosmopolitan.
Currently, Im developing The Happy Artist Lab, a new creative venture that brings my artwork to life through objects and experiences designed to inspire reflection, optimism and imagination.
The Schools Think Ambitious tagline resonates deeply with me. To me, ambition isnt just about climbing the ladder, its about expanding the playing field entirely. Its about refusing to accept a narrow definition of success and instead designing a life that reflects your full creative and intellectual potential.
My advice? Stay curious. Take calculated risks. Understand how powerful it is to blend what youre good at with what you love. Lean into your uniqueness it will become your greatest strength.
