Purpose of Senate
Senate is the principal body responsible for the strategic development of academic activities at the University including teaching, research, and knowledge exchange, and the regulation, governance, standards, and quality assurance of the academic work of the university.
Key responsibilities
Senate Terms of Reference are set out in Statute 12 of the University Statutes (Powers of the Senate) and University Ordinance 8 (Powers of the Senate).
Reporting relationships
Senate reports to Council.
Procedural rules
Meeting frequency: Senate meets at least five times a year.
Quorum: The quorum for meetings shall be one third of the membership.
Delegated authorities are set out in the Scheme of Delegation.
